morphing raku glaze

Can anyone give an explanation of what is happening to the copper glaze
I use for Raku
copper carb 90
Frit 3110 10
Bentonite 2
Sprayed on medium application and reduced in newspaper clippings.

I get mediocre results sometimes dull pink, but after leaving it out in
the weather of sun and occasional rain it is turning gorgeous, blues,
purples, some gold reds. I tried stopping the morph on one piece with a
clear acrylic sealer and it dulled the colors, not what I wanted. Does
anyone have experience with this? Why is it morphing? How can I "seal"
the colors without dulling it? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Ann

Ann,

Sometimes we get a dull pink-yellow in our glossy copper flash if the
form lies in too much paper. It seems to "suffocate" the color. We do
better when the piece stands up and is surrounded by a single sheet of
paper - the surface comes out very glossy and with very active colors.

Don't know if that will help any...

Erin.

Ann...a comment from a beginner...i've participated in a couple of prim/raku
firings and we've had either good or bad "copper days" due to atmospheric
presuure !? I bought that concept...low pressure day we had great copper
flashing...intense reduction firing increased the copper glazes, ie the
foggier day was better...gotta go..

The "glaze" you refer to is at best short lived, and what you are
witnessing is its re-oxidatiom. Alas I know of no cure, maybe someone
else does.....................
