hello fellow clayarters!! i am a bit of a lurker here (actually, i get the
digests because i can't read all that mail in one day), but i love this list
and i had a queston. i am the mom of a 15 month old boy, and i used to pot
quite alot. in fact, i was trying to make it as a potter when i got pregnant
and lost momemtum and motivation to create anything but my baby!! So here i
am , over a year later, in another part of the country, wanting to make pots
again, but not wanting to spend too much time away from my son. i am in the
process of making a studio in the cellar of our home, but that is taking some
time and i also really want to interact with other clay people! i also
checked out some classes in the area (i now live outside boston), and some
places looked great (mudflat, in particular) but the classes are too long by
an hour and are a little expensive for me right now. To the point: does
anyone know of a pottery studio in the boston area that has either short
classes or who would tolerate someone like me coming in for an hour or two
each week to pot? Or is there a cooperative pottery in town where i could
either pay or do work in exchange for wheel time?? i was also thinking that
there have to be other creative potter moms like me out there, and maybe we
could start a babysitting group or something. If anyone has any info on this
you can email me directly or post it. i'm really looking forward to meeting
other clay people in boston!!
Thanks,
Eileen
in boston, where it was wonderfully warm....

Eileen;
Have you contacted any one in the pottery department at either Montserrat or
Massachusetts College of Art ? Mass Art www.massart.edu

My sister-in-law say that in addition to Mudflats which is set up more
for teaching there is another place in Somerville called Mudville
(617-623-9191) which is aimed more at providing open studio space. I
don't know if it's any cheaper but maybe it will be since there's not as
much instruction involved. You could also try to negotiate less money
for less time.
