Summer of 1998 Sessions :
1. An 11 Week Apprenticeship

* 11 week APPRENTICESHIP
Dates : May 25 - Aug. 7
THE 11 WEEK SUMMER APPRENTICESHIP :
For a person able to devote the summer to an in depth adventure into the
methods and techniques of living as a full-time potter. Individual Study9
throughout the 11 weeks encompasses a total approach to pottery. The
practical experience of working through a complete pottery cycle, and then
repeating it is basic. Mastering the standardware shapes will be encouraged
as skills are fine tuned. Selected apprentice work will be exhibited and
sold at the Pottery Gallery. Apprentice recieves 50% of their sales during
session. All tools, equipment, materials and studio space provided.
COST : $500. plus services around pottery/gallery, ie. kiln maintenance,
clay processing, making sales, cleaning studio, etc.
TRAINING HOURS are : Tuesday thru Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM
* ONE WEEK SESSIONS
Dates : May 25 - Aug. 7
Work alongside Peter Goubeaud and Apprentices. Basic Training in wheel
work. Focus and repition will accelerate skills as the standardware shapes
are accomplished. All tools, equipment, materials and studio space
provided. Students enjoy working with a fine clay body. Dug, processed and
mixed by apprentices and students ; it comes alive on the wheel.
COST : $100. per week
Session Hours : Tuesday thru Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM
* Local environment: Located between Nashville & Chattanooga, just off
I-24, the fresh air, low noise, and unhurried pace of the Sewanee-Monteagle
Mountain has captured the hearts and souls of many people. There is no use
looking for the tacky tourist traps, because there aren9t any. One of
Tennessee9s best kept secrets, the area offers scenic hiking trails and
waterfalls, a 19th century Assembly Ground, the Gothic University of South
campus, craft shops, and good country meals besides.Surrounding the
mountaintop is the 12,000 acre South Cumberland State Park. The potters,
woodcarvers, weavers and other craftsmen who make the mountain their home,
sell their wares in local shops and often invite visitors into their
studios to look, touch, and buy.
* Housing and Meals : Not Provided.

has rented to our students a room w/kitchenette .
