A request for the list:

I'll be attending the Jepson Workshop in Geneva, FL from 6/12 - 6/24.
I'll be there, obviously, over a weekend, and wondered if there's any
potteries, galleries, etc I can visit. Any suggestions? Thanks in
advance :) Mary Christopher, Fairport, NY

For Mary and Leonard, regarding ceramics around Orlando, Florida:

There is an absolutely FANTASTIC gallery in Winter Park, just to the
northeast of Orlando, called the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American
Art, at 445 Park Avenue North (407-645-5311). Park Avenue is the main
street of Winter Park, and is a very nice, quaint street. The Morse
museum features a very extensive collection of American Art pottery,
especially of the early 20th century. Its main attraction, however, is
an extremely large collection of Tiffany glass. Does anyone remember the
Tiffany exhibitions in San Francisco, Chicago, and other cities about 15
years ago? These were taken almost entirely from the Morse collection,
and represented less than 20% of the total collection housed at the
Morse. The collection of Tiffany and other art glass rotates, and it's
always very interesting. In addition to glass, there are also some very
nice paintings, including one of my all-time favorites, "The Dinky Bird"
by Maxfield Parrish. Other paintings include some impressionist, etc.
The ceramics collection includes almost all (OK, all) of the well known
brands of the 1920's. Finally, there is Arts and Crafts furniture.

Winter Park was founded in the 1890's to be, essentially, and artistic
and utopian community for wealthy industrialists from Chicago and the
middle Atlantic states. It is still a very beautiful town, with brick
streets, large oaks, a network of canals that connect about a dozen
lakes, and a nice park that occupies one side of Park Avenue.

Other things to see in Winter Park include the Albin Polasek galleries
at 633 Osceola Ave. (407-647-6294) Polasek was a sculptor, but the
gallery is in his house, which includes great tile, woodcarving, etc.

Winter Park also hosts a very well attended, juried art show twice each
year. More info can be found on their web site. Just do a search for
"Winter Park".

If you want more info send me a message.

Have a great trip!
