Join us for the following workshops in ceramics and glass at the
Indianapolis Art Center this summer:


SAND CASTING GLASS
Instructor: Vincent Leon Olmsted
June 15-19 (9am-3pm each day)
IAC Member Class Fee: $348 Lab Fee: $150 Total: $498
Non-Member Class Fee: $382 Lab Fee: $150 Total: $532

This course will be an extensive look at the technique of sand casting:
from the mixing of the sand to the pouring of the glass. The first day
will be a basic introduction to sand casting with a slide presentation.
Wear old clothes and nothing that is synthetic.

SOLID GLASS FORMING
Instructor: Ferd Thieriot
June 22-26 (9am-3pm each day)

Solid glass forming and sculpting has a long tradition in Italy. Many
of the techniques to be used in this workshop are in the Italian
tradition. New tools will be introduced and students will be encouraged
to fabricate some forming tools of their own. Previous hot glass
experience is required.

SMOKED AND RAKU POTTERY
Instructor: Bob Smith
July 20-22 (9am-3pm each day)

The first two days of this class are instructor demonstrations and class
discussion, while the third day is devoted to firing. Students should
bring in their own bisqued ware for glazing and firing on the third day.

GLASS CASTING
Instructor: Mark Fowler
August 10-14 (9am-3pm each day)

This workshop will focus on the work of hot glass methods which can be
combined or adapted to various casting styles. Blown glass, off-hand or
solid worked glass will be applied to sand castings, iron and graphite
mold castings and colors and annealing problems will be addressed.
Students will work in teams. Finishing of castings will be discussed.

GLASS ELEMENTS
Instructor: Michael Aschenbrenner
August 17-22 (9am-3pm each day)

This workshop will involve the use of solid and blown glass elements to
create unique forms. Students will work with both concept and technique
to develop an individual body of work. Creation and free expression
will be stressed along with analysis. Cooperation and collaboration
among students will be necessary. Materials other than glass will be
used to complete the work. Glassworking experience helpful but not
necessary.

FUNCTIONAL POTS: THROWN AND ALTERED
Instructor: Jeff Oestreich
August 15-16 (Sat. 9-3, Sun. 12-3)

This workshop will revolve around the making of utilitarian pottery.
Day one will deal with throwing various forms such as teabowls, pitchers
and serving pieces. On day two these items will be faceted, distorted
or cut, reshaped and joined. Emphasis on details will be discussed
along the way. Discussions throughout the two days will be on any
pottery topic from forming and glazing to firing and marketing.
