copper wire under glaze?

updated mon 13 apr 98

A couple of questions for the chemists and glaze gurus out there....

I'm building some non-functional vessels whose decoration would benefit by the
addition of metallic copper pooled in the recesses (no vertical surfaces
involved). I would like to use short lenths of copper wire under a commercial
^6 Oxidation cobalt blue glaze.

Questions - As the copper melts, would the vapour present a problem for other
pots in the same firing? Also, how likely would it be to simply oxidize,
creating a cobalt/copper green?

Or, on the other hand, would it be better to attempt this under reduction?

Since I'm firing at the local art center, I certainly do not want to do anything
that would adversely affect either the kiln or other student's work....

????

Many Thanks in Advance!

What if there were no hypothetical situations?

I have used copper wire successfully over glaze by either laying it on the
flat surface or hooking it over the rim of vases. It does run, so a catch
basin is necessary to catch the long drip which can be eliminated by using
shorter pieces of wire. The wire makes lovely black lines and is very
striking.
