Dear David: I remember having the chattering when we first got the Bison
tools. Patience my son. They will chatter for the first thousand or so
pots. We have a five year old one that doesn't chatter any more. We'll
trade you.
A lesson from our old Canadian bull branded with the mark RR.
RR tells me this story at least once a year. One of the advantages of old
age is you forget you ever heard the joke and it becomes even more funny.
Here it goes. Two Texas bulls standing at the top of a hill looking out
over a field full of young heifers. The young bull says to the old bull "
Let's run down the hill and make it with one of those young heifers. The
old bull replies "Let's walk down and make it with them all".
Trouble is I am beginning to understand the joke. The Bison tools are
exceptionally sharp and will chatter for the first few months. Trim some
bisque if it really bothers you. You could also decide to make the
chattering your decoration. It worked for me!
Believe me David, you will never go back to a Kemper tool, maybe a Dolan
but never a Kemper. Sheila maintains that the Bison tool chatters on hard
clay. We normally trim with very soft clay to get more expression.
Tomorrow when you get rammy with the trimming tool remember to walk down
the hill. The life of a potter is a marathon not a sprint.
Missin' yer drawl,
tony

Remove the Chatter using a tip of the tool. Keep it from cattering by changing
the angle you hold the tool at to something other than radially. and keep
altering it as you trim. This would be easier with a picture.
