Dear bRyan,

I have a "Wurtz" Carbon Trap Shino in my glaze notebook - collected from
the Mendocino Art Center. Could it be your "Wart's"? Here it is...I have
never tested it. However, I'm including a favorite Shino, also from the
MAC, which I know is great. Unloaded the kiln early this a.m. - perfect
copper reds and toasty brown and cream shinos... the sun is shining...and
it's Chris's birthday. Some days are great.

I've got to assume that these are supposed to be Pinnel's Copper Red and
Wirt's Shino. The Shino was discussed in Jim Robinson's Article in the
December 1992 Studio Potter along with many others. Virginia Wirt had 2
recipes she developed while in Warren MacKenzie's classes at the U of
Minn in the mid-seventies.

Wirt's Shino #1

Kona F4 42.2%
Spodumene 36.1
EPK 12
Soda Ash 9.6

Wirt"s Shino #2

Neph Sy 37.5
Konas F4 21.1
Spod 18.1
EPK 6
OM4 Ball 12.5
Soda Ash 4.8

These are right off her cards from class. Many other recipes came from
these starting point recipes. The recipes, altered, ultimately became
UCT...University Carbon Trap which showed up in many places.

Any help?
