The last post described a clay body and how to prepare it. Here are a couple=
of
glazes that can be used with this body.

CLEAR GLAZE

Gerstley Borate 50
Frit CC 269 9
EPK(Edgar's Plastic Kaolin) 27
Silica 14
=5F=5F=5F=5F
100

This glaze works best when applied on the thin side (just enough to do the =
job)
to clean biscuit ware. It works well over underglaze colours as well as over
slips. Pieces can be dipped in glaze but the best way to apply is by =
spraying.
If applied too thickly it has a tendency to crawl a bit.

This next glaze is a white majolica glaze. It works very well for glaze on =
glaze
decoration and also makes lovely coloured glazes by using it as a base glaze=
and
adding your favourite Mason (or equivalent) stains in varoius percentages,
usually up to 10 percent (see the Mason stains literature for recommended
percentages for individual stain colours).

WHITE BASE GLAZE

Frit 3124 78
OM4 Ball Clay 8
EPK 6
Silica 8
=5F=5F=5F=5F
100

Zircopax 14

When using as a majolica glaze, this glaze can be warmed up by the addition =
of 1
percent rutile.
This glaze can be applied by dipping or spraying and covers very well. Do =
not
apply overly thick.

The next installment will discuss decorating and both biscuit and glaze =
firing.

Would you mind posting cone limits with your glazes?
