Does anyone use vanadium colorant? I am looking for a chartreuse color,
and I think perhaps vanadium with something else, might do it. I did a
search for it and came back with nothing useful. Anyone have any ideas?

Mason Color Works makes a chartreuse stain (#6236), and some other
yellow-greens, that all contain vanadium in various combinations with
other ingredients. Mason's phone number is (330) 385-4400. They
produce a color chart with all their stains and their ingredients
that might be helpful to you.

Good luck.

I experimented with it back when. I fired in oxidation to ^9 and got a
weak tansparent green. Vanadium does not provede a strong color. You
need to use between 5% and 10% and it is best in combination with tin
oxide to bring out the color. You usually be more successful using
vanadium stains.

I can say that Lana Wison and her text book has ideas and recipies about
this. Also for the same serface and color Richard Orr's stuff is amazing.
These two names should get you going as far as venadium is concerned. BE
CAREFUL IS HIGHLY TOXIC.

Orr Chartruse Glaze ^04

not food safe but amazing
brush on and do layering of these washes to get amazing results.
Let me know how it goes

I am surprised that most of the answers to this question do not mention the
toxicity of Vanadium. It is a strong flux and a weak colorant - Vanadium
Pentoxide - the most stable form is slightly soluble in water - best
colours when combined in a stain.

It would be wise to use it in a well formulated, durable glaze. I would not
use it unless I was willing to have the glaze tested for vanadium release.
