Hello all,
I am looking to purchase some business software to do bookeeping. Does anyone
have a product they would recommend. I seem to remember there was a thread on
this awhile back. Probably just after tax time last year;)
Thanks,

Heather-
We tried Quickbooks Pro and were unhappy with the results. Too many
problems getting that program to keep track of our simple needs. We
have
a gallery "featuring wonderful pottery" combined with a coffeehouse
serving the "best coffee and coffee specialty drinks" availble in our
area. We make and sell our own clay products. In addtion we have a
graphics business.
When we finally gave up on Quickbooks we purchased SMARTSUITE '97 by
Lotus. For a fairly small investment we got several good programs.
1. word processor
we often use this program
2. spreadsheet (Lotus 123)
this has been our easy to use accounting software with the capability
to keep track of income and expenses by category and at the level of
detail we need
3. relational database (Approach)
this year we will begin to use this feature more as this will give us
more information with less work. it is a little more complex to set
up, but we are confident that even we will be able
to use it --- so far so good
4. simple graphics (Freelance)
we use Corel Draw 7 for our graphics
5. organizer, address book with access by category and time planner or
daybook.
so far this has been easy to use and has given us the results we
want/need.
Hope this helps. If you have questions feel free to call at

Our winter gallery/coffeehouse hours are 7:30am-2:30pm Tue-Sat MDT.

QuickBooks Pro is what I have used for years now. Being a packaged
accounting applications program, when coupled with Turbo-tax, it becomes a
really excellent program, especially for those who are accounting-skills
challenged like me!
When you get the combined program , the link between QuickBooks and Turbo-
tax automatically runs your taxes throughout the year. At the end of a
quarter or end of the year, with just a couple of final tweaks, and voila!..
....your taxes are done. All that is left is printing them out, signing, and
mailing. Hopefully with a refund indicated as a result of the savings
realized by having purchased Quickbooks and Turbo-tax.
Good luck!
Usual disclaimers. No connection to either of the companies producing the
software. Just a satisfied user.
