We would like to heat up paraffin in our studio for waxing our pots.
We are aware of the danger connected with the fumes. Isn't there something
you can do to reduce this health hazard??? thanks.

Layna,
I use a small portable electric ring, I heat the wax up 'till it is just
before smoking, then turn the heat back to the lowest setting. At that
temperature you don't fry your brushes.
Another trick is to cut the wax 50/50 with light machine oil. The
resulting mix is perfect for wax resist decoration, and you only need a
hot water bath to keep it fluid. The down side is this mixture stays
softish after it's put on the pot so glazing has to be done as soon as
possible.

Just now someone mentioned paraffin in wax-resist. Newbies note: paraffin
in British books is what we call kerosene. Paraffin wax is the solid wax
used in candles and melted and poured on top of jellies and jams at canning
time.
I spend a couple of years totally confused about this as it appeared in
Leach's book...
