It was just suggested to me to put 1% veegum T in my clay to make it more
plastic. Anybody do this? any downside?

Eleanora,
The addition of 2% V Gum T to a porcelain body instead of
bentonite does wonders. Excellent plasticizer, and it fires
super clean. Wouldn't hurt stoneware, either. Probably.

Elenora,

Be cautious with the Veegum T , a good friend has had problems
with it turning the clay rubbery at 2%
a student using the same clay recipe but using only 1% had difficulties but
was able to work the clay if she worked it stiffer on the wheel. We dont
have any conclusive testing on this yet I feel pretty shure the Veegum is
an issue.
Perhaps try a1/2% in a test batch to see the effect. This was in a
grolleg Porcelain cone 10 body .
Good Luck......Mike Vatalaro
