>CERAMICS DEPARTMENT
>STUDIO MANAGER
>
>STATUS: Part time academic support staff, 23 hours a week, 44 weeks a year
>on a fixed schedule tied to the teaching calendar. Reports to Dept. Head,
>Ceramics. Effective July 1, 1998. One year appointment with one year
>renewal bases on performance review.
>
>SALARY: $9.25 per hour plus benefits.
>
>QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced training in ceramics, including a broad range of
>ceramic processes from clay and glaze formulation to kiln technology and
>repair. Excellent supervisory and communication skills. Ability to load
>and fire a variety of kilns. Technical maintenance abilities
>(construction, electrical, mechanical) highly desirable. Applicant with
>MFA and willingness to teach in Open Program classes preferred.

>RESPONSIBILITIES: Studio manager monitors kilns and firings; oversees
>equipment including minor maintenance; material and supply inventories;
>prepares or supervises preparation of clay and glazes; assists with studio
>cleanliness; prepares the studio for classes and workshops; supervises all
>ceramic work study students; and is responsible for the studio in the
>absence of the Dept. Head and or other instructors.

>A significant responsibility is involvement with students as an
>instructional resource for the use of equipment and process related
>activities. The studio manager , along with instructors, provides students
>with the information necessary to develop good studio habits and encourages
>them to develop greater confidence and take more responsibility regarding
>studio operations such as glaze mixing, kiln loading and firing.

>PRIVILEGES: Studio Manager is entitled to reasonable use of the ceramic
>studio , including materials and firing.
