Re: the question, "how do we break away from the aesthetics of the
50s..." this is off the top of my head and may be simplistic, but my guess
is the best approach is not to try to. How can we produce our own vision if
we are preoccupied with not producing someone else's? We are today; the past
is part of us, and will take its proper place as we produce what honestly
comes from our experience.
