b-mix problems

Hi folks,

Well, I searched old postings on B-mix cone 10 problems and most had to do
with attachments cracking and crazing. We have a different problem. We use
^10 B-mix in our ^10 oxidation firing for crystalline and in ^10 reduction for
our rutile. In the oxidation, white clay bumps (sorry, I don't know the
technical term - by the way, what is dunting?) appear all over the pot. Sort
of crystalline with acne. However, the reduction firing is fine. In the same
oxidation firing, we had slipcast crystalline which turned out perfect.
Anyone know what's going on?

This problem started cropping up slowly with just a few pieces affected, now
everything is (in oxidation). We use a de-airing pugmill, same as always. Is
there a shelf life to this stuff?

By the way, I did some celadon testing along with our rutile reduction firing
and found that Coleman's Apple Green found in the glaze database gives a good
result on B-mix with no crazing.

For all of you fortunate people living in the United States there is an
alternative to Laugna's poor quality B Mix . Aardvark's 'Bee' Mix cone 10
This company produces excellent products, provides outstanding customer
service and they are a pleasure to deal with. They also handle Coleman
Porcelain and have developed a new clay called Vegas Buff. Phone 714
541-4157 Santa Anna, California web site www.ceramics.com/aardvark/ Now if
only we could figure out a way of getting these clays to British Columbia
without having to mortage our souls it would be heaven!
Cheers........
