water fountains and earthenware

Hi everyone,

a friend of mine has an earthenware waterfountain fired to 05 with a
turqoise glaze. she would like to know if the water might cause it to
slowly deteriorate since it is low fire, and, if yes, is there a way to
protect it (i.e. polyeurethane?)

beauty of the deterioration, the passing of time, and make a new one!
