high barium glaze (was about unity formula)

Hi Ralph

There has been concern about the high level of barium in the glaze I quoted,
I really ought to have added that this is a glaze only suitable for
non-functional ware. I do apologise for not putting this in my original
post.

Maybe books written for beginners should place more emphasis on health and
safety issues. The particular book I took this glaze from has half a page
on "Protecting Your Health" and it is placed at the end of the appendix.
This is a book aimed at those new to glaze!

Dear all glaze gurus, I am not so well up on the unity
formula. I was told by my pottery teacher that any barium
glaze with copper will leach. Apparently the copper does a
very nice job on helping it leach out. This is besides the fact
that this glaze submitted by Caroline has got more than
enough barium to leach out. The thread some months,
maybe years ago sort of indicated that more than 6 or 7%
would leach out. Please let me know if I am on the correct
track. Ralph in PE SA.
