Does anyone have the recipe for a raku glaze called Seths luster. It's one of
the nicest raku glazes that I've ever used and I really miss it.

Thanks,

have it has a sandy like texture to it its
colors will range from bright blues to
coppers and colors inbetween. i dont know
whatcone it is but will let you know later.
gerstley borate 4000.
bone ash 1000.
copper carbonate 500.
cobalt carbonate 250.
tin oxide 62.50
this glaze can be very beautilful but
it can also come out somewhat dull. it does
have a shelf life. thats when it starts
to come out alittle dull. im not sure what
the shelf life is.

Seth's Luster, Copper Sand, Hawaiian Blue.....are beautiful easy to use
raku glazes that will almost always fade over time. In my experience
the "shelf life" is 1-2 years in a hot humid area. It seems that in
climate controlled gallery settings it could be much longer. The only
way that we have found to "stop" this color shift (which is the
inevitable reoxidation of the glaze) is to add a sealant coat. This
will immediately eliminate some of the best color but will add years to
what is left.

If you still want to use this glaze try firing to 1850. Pull
immediately and cover quickly in reduction can. An air tight container
over turned on a sand bed works good....Leave a minimum of 5 mins.
before opening. Sometimes leaving alone until relatively cool is best.

Good luck but remember there is a "timer" running on those beautiful
colors.
