Greetings,
Anyone interested in handbuilding and/or lowfire might want to think
about Gail Kendall's workshop at Arrowmont School, Gatlinburg, TN
(arrowmnt@aol.com) July 13-24th. Gail does wonderful coil-built vessels
with great volume and surface additions. Glazes are rich, jewel-like
colors. She's a very quick coil-builder. Her workshop at UF inspired a
number of students to re-think the usefulness of coil techniques. Gail's
also entertaining, lively, and offers a lot of information. She teaches
at Univ. of NE. Gail's e-mail: gkendall@unlinfo.unl.edu
Course Description
"We will construct, fire, and glaze a range of slab build and coiled
functional pots using terracotta clay. Emphasis we be equally divided
between formal issues and ideas relevant to craftsmanship and
technology. Slide shows, class discussions and critiques will help
provide an open, exploratory setting for addressing the role of
functional art in contemporary culture and ways, we, as individual
artists, can express our true natures in this powerful medium."
