Re:saltfiring / safety/ using sodium chloride

As i can see it it is unsafe to inhalate the smoke from the organic material
during the firing AND if you are using salt (sodium chloride) it`s very
dangerous to get in contact with the gases.
I don`t think the problem is that you dammaged the kiln, you can always
repair a kiln, but it`s more difficult to repair your lungs.......
You must have in mind that when you are firing salt at high temp. you are
releasing clorine-gas, sometimes used by Saddam H.
So don`t inhalate the smoke / gas!!!!!!!!!!!

Here in Sweden it`s ok to fire with salt as long as you don`t kill anyone
or yourself with the chlorinegas.
-I usally say to my students :always know what you are doing and perhaps
treath every part in the glaze as if it`s uraniumoxide.

Take care

I thought we were all aware by now that the definitive research has shown
that salt kilns do not produce chlorine gas. The fumes are corrosive, and
an irritant to the lungs, but they are not poisonous.
