Hi mudbuddies in clayart land!
Hope someone can give me some much needed suggestions for packing an
enclosed form (hollow box) about 4"x4"x6" with 3 small loose clay balls
inside. I can secure the box, but I'm concerned that during the shipping
the movement of the clay balls inside might crack the box. There is a
very small opening (abt. 1/4 inch sq.)in the box. Has anyone dealt with
this type of problem before? I plan to use UPS for shipping.
Hoping there's a safe method,
Sande

Sandra,
Try filling with uncooked rice, popcorn, etc. seal shut with tape or
wax.

Sandra,
You might try the little stryofoam beads made for bean bag chairs. The
smallest I've used (for shipping blooming plants) is about 1/8" in
diameter. They flow into every nook and cranny and would fill the inside of
the clay box. Be sure to tape or somehow seal the opening during shipping
as they will also flow out. They can be poured or vacuumed out on arrival.
I've gotten them at fabric stores and also at foam or futon stores.

I would try to fill the box with something that would prevent the
balls from free movement, but not weigh much. I might try rice (uncooked),
sawdust, small dried peas, etc. I'm sure you'll find something that would do,
then tape up the opening.
