Thank you, Richard, for taking the time to post a response to Clayart.
I'm flattered that a thought of mine triggered your thinking. I'm
encouraged, too, because I, myself, do indeed have a "dose of focus, a
willingness to learn, and a large dollop of pure love of the medium." I
would only add a "big shaker of appreciation and love for potters,
also." Perseverance is one of my strengths...so maybe I WILL make it,
after all. (Where's my hat? Want to throw it in the air as I prance
around the birdbath...all our lakes are dry, no fun prancing there...)
Although I have no intention of quitting pottery now or ever just
because I have no God-given artistic talent, I am inspired by so many of
your posts both direct and on Clayart. Thanks to all of you. I
appreciated, also, Marshall's comments about the chair he crafted. I,
too. Been there. Not with a chair, but with constructing clothing:
started out planning, cutting out etc an elegant dress with long
sleeves, a collar and a belt; wound up with a blouse with no sleeves
sans collar. With music: took piano and pounded those keys. I was 9.
Four year old sister came along and played everything I played, only
with more understanding, plus anything else she heard. I quit. Gave up
my 50 cents a week (yes, 50 cents...remember, I am VERY old) to be used
for Nessie's lessons. Good investment. She eventually played every
instrument in the band. Her son wrote his first song, The Flower, also
at four. When his dad suggested a little something extra on the end of
the song, the son slid off the bench saying, "Nope, it's finished, all
done."

I, like many of you, have been fortunate enough to have other areas of
fulfillment in my life, areas that were easier to attain...clay for me
is a giant leap, but talent or no, here I am.

In the Mojave just full of herself...and thinking that if I could create
like Richard Aerni, I'd never leave the studio nor cease the bragging.
