Not to get pulled into this one, but.....I have been teaching the
business of art and craft for seven, maybe eight years at a local
community college. My students have been everything from artists
producing museum quality work to a mother and daughter team making fabric
what-nots and widgets.....from "art" to "loving hands."
I have always pointed out that there are two things that separate
a professional from a hobbyist.
The first, is the persons attitude and intent. The second is an
IRS regulation. The most important one is the second one...it can cost
you money.
Ask one of the CPA's on the list to explain it. I usually end up
spending at least half of a three hour class on it.
