I have been asked by a friend to try and get some information about a glaze
that was talked about in the summer '98 edition of CM. I haven't seen that
issue so I am just relaying the request. Hope it makes sense.
CM had a write up about a cone 6 glaze that was being used by Rick Malmgren.
I think it was simply called "Leather". Apparently it originated with Jon
Ellenborgen from Penland Craft School. The recipe as used by Rick is a
follows:
"Leather" Cone 6
Dolomite 21
Gerstley Borate 10
Spodumene 9
Wollastonite 5
Custer Feldspar 27
Neph. Syenite 12
EPK 16
The question. What was the original cone 10 recipe from Penland, or what
adjustment can be made with the cone 6 version to make it a cone 10?
I'm not enough of a glaze whiz to help on this one.
Thanks,
John Rodgers
