"make-your-own" pump collars

To Jannette, and others who would like to make pump collars:

I am using the collar molds from Axner.
Before that, I made my own collar molds, and before
that I used to buy ceramic collars from Miami Cork
Co., before they went out of business.
......I just don't like glue-on plastic collars!

I don't know of a good way to tell how the size after shrinkage
will work with your clay, without just trying it.
Axner says in their catalog that they have two sizes.
I started out with the 'standard' size, and it was just a tad too
small - some of time a pump would screw on, but half the time
it did not work.

I called and asked for the larger size.
I don't think they really had a larger size at the time, because
I got switched around to different people and was finally told I
would be contacted later.
After 2 months I'd supposed I was forgotten about, but was surprised
with a call and a package containing the larger size mold.

I've only fired a few pieces with the larger collar, but they are all
a good fit.
The difference between the two sizes is pretty slight.
I fire to cone 10, by the way.
Meanwhile, I have hundreds of dollars worth of lotion bottles that
have pump threads that are too small for a standard lotion pump.
I'm trying to think of something to do with them to make them
useful, but haven't come up with anything yet!
(Any ideas, Clayarters??)

The point of recounting my "collar history" is to make you
aware that there is a "learning curve" here.
You don't just pay your money and then have pump collars.
Also, the Axner molds are pretty fragile. Pieces of plaster have
chipped off of several of mine.
If you are willing to spend the time and effort to use ceramic
pump collars, you will have a lotion bottle that will be much
more aestheticlly pleasing than a pot with a piece of plastic glued
on it. And, you will be able to absolutely, positively guarantee
that the collar will never come off the bottle!

Best of luck,
