raku glaze bases are very simple, here are several
50% neph syn
50% gertsley borate or borax
2] 50% neph syn
50% frit 3134 or 3124
3]
50%gertsley borate
50%frit 3134 or 3124
to these glaze bases add
2- % percent of colors such as
copper oxide
iron oxide

Dear Gary:
Great Glazes! I have been doing stoneware/porcelains in a classical
style/downdraught red/cone 9 10 for a couple years now. I also enjoy doing
Pit fire work but have never tried Raku but am anxious to do so one day.
I have also been experimenting and utilizing some turquoise glazes. Your
ALkaline Blue looks interesting! I have do want to in time do some tests
for a alkaline turq, so this might be one I could try too. Maybe this
question is a bit naive but what temp are most of these glazes? You can
view my work currently at (http://www.potteryinfo.com)
I regret that I don't have the text put to the pictures. I am new to the
net and still learning. Thanks. Nice to talk to a famous potter.

My faviroite Raku glaze is out of Chappell's. I just call it
Raku Love
Pemco Frit #25- 42.5g
Ferro frit #3134 - 27.4g
Lithium Carb - 9.8g
Epk - 6.3 g
Silica - 14.0 g
Bentonite - 2.0 g
Add 4.5 g copper Carbonate (really anywhere between 2 - 5 g)
If you reduce heavy - copper/greenish /yellowish
reduce lightly - beautiful turwuoise crackle.
See Chappell for other color variations, like silver lister ...

Most of the time I fire my raku glazes anywhere between 1700F and 1900F. Some
glazes I have to watch real close because they will get too hot and
run/bubble/etc. If I remember correctly the Alkaline Blue is one of those type
of glazes that run/bubble. Might start watching about 1600F.
Good Luck,
Gary Ferguson
