Paul Lewing on wed 8 jul 98
I was at my local clay supplier yesterday looking at some of the new
cadmium encapsulated stains, particularly the yellow. I asked to see
an analysis of it and was very surprised to see that it contained
sulphur! I had always thought sulfur caused lots of problems in
glazes and clay, and in fact that it burned at a relatively low
temperature.
What's it doing in there, and why doesn't it burn? Parmalee is the
only book I have that says much about sulphur, and it's all about the
problems it can cause. What gives?
Paul Lewing, who usually buys every new color he comes across and
still can't believe he didn't pick up some of this stuff.
