Hi:
I was recently contacted by an aid worker in Brazil about the rapid fire
kiln. This
woman works with the very poor. She wants to set up a group of women up
with some
pottery supplies and hopes that they could begin producing wares and
thereby generate
some income. I told her I may be able to donate a wheel and the booklet on
the fiber
kiln design I use, but she says a kick wheel would probably go over with
more acceptance.
Sounds like an interesting and beneficial project so I am wondering if
anyone on this list
could offer any advice on the following: a) is a kick wheel the best option
and if so is anyone
on this list from Brazil and knows the best way of getting something there,
b) knowledge of
the clays available in that region and what firing temps would they need to
achieve, c) anyone
who has had experience with this kind of set up.
I will pass on any suggestions to Nancy. If you wish to reach her directly
I could pass on
an email address.
Thanks
