Try Heavenly Artworks, 2324 7th Ave. S, Great Falls, MT, 59405. Phone
1-800-359-4085. E-mail heavenlyart@mcn.net. I have not used them
personally but I've passed their name on to several friends who have
and have been satisfied with them. Several yers ago when I was
checking out decals, they had the lowest prices I could find.

Good luck.

I have been most successfull with Olympic Enterprises for decals.. I have
seen one other company that advertises decals for $10 sheet at shows but the
quality is the poorest in existence.. Call Olympic Enterprises, and ask for
Steve.. he has treated us the best at each show we have seen him.. then
again we do get $700+ =-)
also check out Mr & Mrs of Dallas for great prices on blank plates, etc...

Olympic Enterprises: 216-746-2726 fax: 216-746-1156

Sorry cant find the # of Mr & Mrs of Dallas....

I am currently working on ceramic decals. I am curious if anyone has any
recipes for ink/glaze for the decals. I am now using a high lead based
glaze. I am also interested in the varnish that acts as a vehicle for
the decal. Is there a specific type of varnish that I have to use, or
can I use the ordinary varnish from the local hardware?

Hello....

I've worked with the LR Reusche china paints exclusively...they have a water
based vehicle (super easy clean-up) and they have an oil based (good for
screen printing onto glazed tiles etc...)

As for =22cover coat=22...Reusche sells one that can be screened =
on.....which is
very good....however, I've found that Krylon Kamar Varnish works really well
too...spraying doesn't disturb the images at all, and its just a question of
getting a sense of how thick it needs to be so that the decal is strong =
enough
to stay together while transferring to a glazed surface.

If you have any questions, email me directly and use Decals in the subject.

hey I'm from nscad, we recently had steve bradford visit. He did a decal
workshop. We used a product called =22krylon clear coat=22. I think that
krylon is the company name. Anyway they make all sorts of fixatives for
artists. It has to be put on in a thin coat first (too much will make it
run). let it dry for 20 min. then add more this time in a thicker coat.
THe only problem with this product is that after about three days if the
decal is not used the coating changes in nature (probably drying) it seems
to become to brittle. We get around this by printing the =22would be =
decals=22
onto decal paper, then storing them until thier needed. At which time we
spray what we need. If you choose this meathodmake sure that the sealant
does not cover the edge of the paper, it seals the two layers together, I
find that the best thing to do is to cut the outer edge of the decal
(usually exess paper anyway) exposing a clean unsealed surface.
we used a computer printer. Obvouisly some limitations, if you do get a
good recipe could you pass it along, thanx

I am interested in printing my own ceramic decals w/my own computer to print
my personal poems and
graphics. Do you have or know where I might be able to obtain the software
and what type of transfer product is used? If so what type of printer laser
vs. ink or bubble jet.

Your assistance in solving this question is greatly appreciated.

Christa,

To my thinking "Printing" & Ceramics are two different things. Yes, you can
have mouse pads, shopping bags, and tiles PRINTED.

I've been working 3 1/2 years on a genuine ceramic process that can be used
with real honest clay and glazes. Faithful reproduction to almost arbitrary
size. Wonderful rich glazes expected to be possible by the end of this summer
(so far we have used "commercial like" stain based glazes.)

Ceramic materials are timeless, perhaps you will want to rethink your medium?

We can work from digital images. You can specify any size without fear of
quality loss. Our process is particularly effective (simple) with two colors
which is appropriate to written material - we can incise through a glaze into
the claybody itself. Infinite variety of textures - colors -
control/variability possible.

((I'm anything but a poet but the possibility of seeing something I wrote, in a
red celedon with featherings to black (tenmuku) incised into a light stoneware
makes me want to become one....))

Marc, Are you on this listserve? I want to ask you a question regarding
photo-transfer on to ceramic tile. Or maybe it's decal? Jim

Hi Jim & group,
I also have questions regarding photo transfer and emailed Marc directly. He
is offering a decal class this summer. I would like to learn about decals.
He can be contacted at highwater clays.

Not knowing anything about decals...I went back to the clayart archives and
printed up tons of tips on decals. I also went to the UK decal sites and
emailed a random decal manufacturer. One great person at a UK company who
sells decals emailed me back with the names of the best decal products. He
suggested:
Paper - Brittains(Tullis Russell Group),
Colours -Emerys,
Covercoat - Degussa.

Any suggestions on the best products?

The paper was easy to find in the US. Tullis Russel, Inc, c/o C&M Warehouse
Inc. 95 Leggett St. East Hartford, CT 06108. Contact: Jean Luciano at Jean
Luciano

Colours -Emerys, Does anyone know where I can find this in the US? I cannot
find anyone who sells this.

covercoat: This took months to track down since Degussa was bought out by
Ferro. They are located in PA (cerdec) and they also sell the onglazes
(cerdec), covercoat and media. Their lead free is the Summerday line and
their lead is Sunshine. Their phone number is 724-223-5900. Harry Evens is
especially helpful.

Highwater Clays at www.highwaterclays.com sells degussa products such as
inks, media (both water base and oil base), paper, covercoat and other decal
supplies.

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips about decals? I am a student and
will try it in a month.

I especially have a question on the media and covercoat. I got a safety
sheet on the media choices between waterbase and oil. The oil seems to be
pretty toxic (as well as the covercoat). Has anyone been successful with the
waterbase media? Is there a safer way to go regarding the covercoat? It
contains benzene so I am concerned.

Google for

in Massachusetts.

They can do anything decal -wise for glass or ceramic. The best I've seen.

and can also create custom decals to your requirements. See
