Is anybody making clay beads?
What can you tell me about it?

Hi Jerry, What kind of beads do you want to make? I am currently making a
hollow, agateware variety . There are a couple really good bead magazines that
run monthly instructions for bead making, my favorite is" buttons and beads".
Ornament magazine has inspiring photos and the occasional how-to. Good
Luck,Kim

I make beads on a limited scale. I roll out clay in a tube shape, texture the
clay & make a hole in it. They are little buggers to handle glaze & fire. I
enjoy single fire iron oxide on clay much better. I've made pendent style
beads. Front side flat tube for stringing on the back. These can be pressed
images of lizards or fossils. I use plater stamps, but lately I've
rediscovered wax resist & I can't spell it this morning scraffito. I glaze
the front of the bead white, when dry wax it, when dry scratch through then
brush a wash of any oxide over. Fun. I've gotten carried away making beads
magnets & pins.

Jerry,
From time to time I produce porcelain beads and jewelry.
Instead of the tedious glazing procedure I use a rock tumbler to polish the
beads. This creates a smooth and pleasing to touch bead.
Check out my site as the pictures and artist notes may be of interest to
you.
