Robert,

The Colorado Association of Research Libraries (CARL) provides this
service under their Uncover site:

http://uncweb.carl.org

They index articles from over 17,000 periodicals as soon as they are
published and they will fax most of the articles. Searching is free but
there is a charge for faxing (average $10-12 or so). I did a periodical
title search for ceramics or pottery and got the list of periodicals,
below.

UNFORTUNATELY, not all copyright holders permit this service, Ceramics
Monthly among them! (Odd, since those who do permit the faxing get
royalties, so CM is just encouraging unauthorized copying.) It is the
academic periodicals that are most open to fazing. Still, even in those
cases it does give you a citation to make locating the article easier.

Ceramic engineering and science proceedings
Ceramic forum international : cfi : berichte de
Ceramic industries international
Ceramic industries journal
Ceramic industry
Ceramic review
Ceramics : art and perception
Ceramics : ciac newsletter
Ceramics international
Ceramics monthly
Ceramurgia international
New Zealand potter
Pottery in australia
Pottery quarterly

I believe the earlist they index is 1988 for several thousand
periodicals. Many others thay began indexing at other times in the past
ten years. You can also view the contents of issues--and they have a
paid service where they will email you the contents of periodicals' new
issues as they come out.
