I thought some of you might be interested in this...
Someone asked me by email about an old Studio Potter article about
castable refractories in salt firing. I just put the article up
on studio potter's web site - it is at

It is actually three articles, by Tom Turner, Wally Smith, and
Richard Leach. The articles are from the Summer 1975 issue, which
is no longer available.
Hope this is of some use to someone. I have no idea if the same
sort of materials can be used for posts inside the kiln... if anyone
has any experience with this, please let me know.
