Clayarters :

Thought I'd respond to the whole list regarding Lisa's Celadon query. My =
good
friend John Britt and I worked on some celadons at the end of the summer. =
We
achieved some nice results with the following recipes :

Apple Green Celadon =5E 10 Red. (from Tom Coleman)

Whiting 17.95
Custer (Potash) Feldpsar 43.59
Kaolin (EPK) 10.26
Flint 28.20
Add :
Chrome Oxide 0.25
Red Iron Oxide 0.77

Nice color and texture. No crazing on Grolleg. Crazing on domestic =
porcelains
(opaque from additions of ball clay, bentonite, etc.,...) and white =
stonewares.

Celadon =5E 10 Red. (from Steven Hill)

Whiting 19.6
Custer (Potash) Feldspar 37.5
Kaolin (I use EPK) 13.4
Flint 25.9
Add :
Red Iron Oxide 1.8

Nice transparent green color. No crazing on any claybodies I tested on =
grolleg
porcelain, domestic porcelain, and white stoneware.

Hensley Celadon =5E 10 Red. (from Chris Staley/ClayTimes)

Kona F-4 (Soda) Feldspar 40.0

Barium Carbonate 5.0
Whiting 8.5
Flint 35.0
Grolleg Kaolin 4.0
Tin Oxide 1.0

Crackle (Kuan) Celadon =5E 10 Red. (from Pete Pinell/ClayTimes)

Custer (Potash) Feldspar 85.0
Whiting 8.0
Flint 7.0
Add:
Red Iron Oxide 2.0
Bentonite 2.5

Lived up to it's name. Very nice crazing pattern on all claybodies I tested=
it
on. Moderate blue green color.

Custer (Potash) Feldspar 43.2

Pete's Clear =5E 10 Red. (from Pete Pinell/ClayTimes)

Custer (Potash) Feldspar 25.0
Whiting 20.0
Grolleg Kaolin 20.0

made
with Grolleg porcelain.

Pete's Blue Celadon =5E 10 Red. (from Sam Clarkson)

Custer (Potash) Feldspar 25.0
Whiting 20.0
Grolleg Kaolin 20.0
Flint 35.0
Add :
Tin Oxide 1.0
Barium Carbonate 2.0
Barnard Clay 3.0

The best blue celadon I've seen. A beautiful transparent strong blue color.
Best on grolleg porcelain. You can see a fine example of this glaze on page=
57
in Lark's =22Wheel Thrown Ceramics=22.

All of these glazes were fired in a Alpine 24 cu ft updraft. We reduced =
heavily
starting at cone 012 ( I was a little concerned with black coring the few =
dark
stoneware pieces in the chamber, but no problem) until cone 05 dropped and =
then
in light reduction up to cone 10. The total firing cycle was about thirteen
hours.

I hope this helps. Good luck=21

Found your untested Coleman Apple Green Celadon formula. Since the
date on it is 12/6/96 ... have you by any chance tested it yet?

I have limited resources/facilities and so pretty much need to have
=22the real thing.=22 Tested, approved, guaranteed ....

Thanks a lot.

Hello everyone! I was wondering if the person (sorry i can't remember your name)
that requested a celadon colored glaze ever found/received the recipe. If so,
could you send me a copy too?

Thanks,

Mocha E. Trimier
