Hello mudders
I have just been given a present of a small slab bottle which a
friend bought in Italy. The woman selling it, from the factory
where it was made, said it was "cold glaze". This is a new one to
me.... I asked if that had definitely been the word, or could it
possibly have been something else that he mis-heard. No,
definitely, absolutely sure, she said cold glaze.
Well of course I checked with Rhodes, the Hamers and Peterson, but
nothing there. So, can anyone tell me please if you have heard of
such a thing?
The pot is white clay under a white or maybe clear glaze, decorated
with wiggly patterns in blue (of course!) and a bit of yellow -
quite simple, quite nice. Deruta written on the bottom - which is
where it came from.
I still think he mis-heard...!

Jenny ,
In repsonse to the COLD glaze, maybe the potter said cobalt glaze and your
friend had a problem with the potters accent. ????????
Possibly,
