Hi, just an aside on this thread. If you simply open the lid without
turning off the controller (by programming a steep down ramp, or by
pausing, or stopping the program) then the controller will try to hold the
temperature by turning everything on full blast. So the elements will glow
brightly. In an electric kiln, the element temperature is maybe 200C
[350F] or so above the kiln temperature, more or less, depending on the
temperature and lots of stuff. This is why they glow so brightly.
However, when you turn them off in a hot kiln, they will still remain at
the kiln wall temperature. If the kiln is glowing, the elements will also
glow. This doesn't mean they are conducting current, or heating. If you
look at the feed through part, it should be darker than the rest of the
kiln a while after it is turned off.
