In reply to Lori W. request for a book on extruding, I came across this new
title in a flier from Lark Books. It lists a book (which looks very
interesting) called Creative Extruded Ceramics, by Diana Pancioli --112
pages with 200 color photos, but it is not available until Sept. 1999 (if
you don't mind waiting.) The number of Lark Ceramics Books is 800.284.3388.

Attention: Lori and Joyce.

If anyone knows if the extruder books are out yet, it would be Clayarter
Steven Branfman. If he is too busy to read Clayart with his big sale
ongoing, you might write him directly. His address is:

It may be some time before they are on the market, but I do know that Lark
Books was soliciting slides of work by extruder users. Also, someone else,
not connected to Lark Books had a message on Clayart some time back asking
for suggestions. So eventually they should be available.

I do not use an extruder but have heard that one way to clean out the barrel
is to push a terry cloth towel down the barrel after use. Does this make
any sense?

Does anybody know if Diana's extruder book is on the market yet? I've
had this pretty good extruder for a couple of years now and am using it
for first time this week. Many dies came with the package, about $200.00
worth, since it was an NCECA show price. I'm intrigued (finally) with
its possibilities ... am making wonky vases, bottles, votive candle
holders, boxes ... square, oval, round ... joining thrown necks to
extruded bodies... extruded using hollow dies; lids and bottoms with
same dies but solid... not a lot of thought required and no trimming. (I
still have to trim a lot usually, although I'm getting better.) But I
need more ideas. If anybody's heard about Diana's book, please let me
know. Thank you.

In the Mojave breathing deeply of the moister, colder air ... at least
early mornings... around 3 a.m. ... nice.

Thanks Joyce, for asking about the book.

The Larkbook "Extruded Ceramics" is being printed (the manuscript was
completed in June). The book will be out as soon as it reaches our
shores (from the Far East). The latest guestimate is February.

Lark's publishing house was sold recently to a New York distributor
(Sterling) which may be part of the reason for the delay; the book
had been scheduled to be out this fall. Sorry for the delay.
