Once again I am bedazzled by the amount of great information forthcoming
from Clayarters! Yesterday I had only vague scraps of info about the
existence of creative extruder projects. Today I've cornered the market
on where to find what I need. Diana Pancioli is writing an extruder book
to be published by Lark Books Sept. 1999. Daryl Baird has a book coming
out mid-1999 through The American Ceramics Society. Both these authors
e-mailed direct and both generously mentioned that there is a book out
now sold by Steve Branfman written by Conrad. David Hendley has an
article on making your own extruder&dies in the next issue of Pottery
Making Illustrated. Several mentioned Glick's article on extruders in a
70s issue of Studio Potter, which I've now ordered but which David
offered to copy and snail! Wow. Diana has sent me tips and offered her
expertise on specific problems until her book is out. Many of you
pointed out the need to use soft clay. Reclaimed is great according to
Carol S. who also advised on the use of power tools and hand tools in
making dies. I wish I knew something I could share that would help pull
other Clayarters over whatever their hurdles are....maybe some day.
Thank you to all of you.

In the Mojave...answering "what do I cook in the pressure cooker?" Soups
mostly. #1 Support Person runs on regular infusions of homemade soups
served with French bread or crispy cornbread (not the kind with sugar
but the one with buttermilk), mixed green or fruit salad, wine or
beer...whoops! hearing big equipment sounds...going out now to see what
the well-diggin' man is doing...
