finding local clays

Stacey, perhaps this depends on the area you live in, but in my area a
sure bet for clay deposits are under swamps. The clay makes an
impermeable layer which holds water. I'v been digging clay from the
swamp in my hay field for ten years. Good luck.

IN an addition to the post I made about Stacey s need
for finding local clay, there is a publication from the
Delaware Geologic survey that addresses the
possibilities on the west side of the river: Delaware
Clay Resources: T.E. Pickett, 1970, 70p. For other
people who don t live in south Jersey, there is a
geology link web site that has links to all the state
geologic survey sites:

In any event, there are any number of clay finding
resources out there. You may have to wade through some
geologic jargon but it isn t that complex.
