Can someone tell me how to figure the inside diameter of pvc tubing?
Kiln size is about 20 cubic feet, down draft with 4 venturi burners,
one million btu using a 500 gallon propane tank located about 45 feet
from the kiln (to accomodate the truck and its 180 ft. hose).

Water line and Gas line are both measured by the inside diameter,
refrigeration line is measured by it outside diameter. To the best of my
knowledge PVC tubing is not suitable for gas plumbing. There is plastic
pipe that is suitable but i wasn't able to locate the particular substance
it is made of and it is connected by compression fittings or plastic
welding, not the solvent glue use in PVC. The old standard for propane
here was the use of copper tubing but you really need to talk with your
propane dealer to get the correct pipe to be used in your area. A
according to Olsen's Kiln Book a 1/2" pipe is sufficient for you
application if using propane.

I do not know the diameter needed for the pvc, sorry but you got my
attention stating that you have a 500 gallon propane tank and I guess four
250,000 btu burners. When I first started firing my first kiln I had the
same setup, I had a 36 cu. ft hard brick kiln, and it took me 36 hours to
get it up to cone 10. It froze up on me - it started to draw the liquid
and not the gas. It was my first firing and I didn't want that to happen
again - so I got a 1000 gallon tank and never had a problem since. More
surface area for the gas to evaporate off of.
I need help here - I would think one would use black pipe for gas but I am
behind the times I have been using a high presure hose for quite a few
years now. It inables me to move my burners from my soft brick kiln to the
hard brick salt kiln. Am I crazy, or should I ask am I PLAYING with fire.
I am about to rebuild my kiln myself so please post answers thank you a
semi-newbie bill
