this is an old trick that i have posted before, but it is a good reminder.
take a tall pitcher or simple tall pot and dip it into the glaze all the
way for
one second.
let it dry for 10 seconds or so, then back in 5/6th of the way. wait 10
seconds,
back in 2/3's of the way, wait for drying, back in 1/2 way, then back in
1/4 of the
way. you now have a pot that has glaze with many thickness'. you can
observe after firing what thickness you really like.
what you will really notice is that you have 5 glazes.
for the fussy ones, always follow ron roy's directions, but remember, he
gets real cranky if you do not do it right.
i like this test, it leaves you with a very nice keeper pot.
i don't like tests that you have to throw away...................and i can
never tell
anything on a little chip or tile.
need pots to really tell what is going on. if the test is really a
failure, hell
you can use it for target practice........deer hunting just around the corner.
(and no crabbing about us hunting and filling our freezer with real food)
rituals come in many forms.........my son and i just love our outings at
the farm,
cold mornings, dressed warm. waiting.
you can hear everything, sitting still, a red squirrel about 3 feet away,
wondering
what the hell is that big orange thing doing in my tree? i really have had
chickadees land on my head. i never shoot the deer....my son is too fast.
he is like a wild animal in the woods. i just go along to be his partner.
