juror fees and first show

Our local art guild is looking to put together a Juried Show but we don't know
what the typical juror fee would be. I'm guessing it all depends on who the
artist is but I'm guessing there is a standard fee and perks (travel, meals,
etc.) Any additional thoughts on putting together a first show would also be
helpful.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There is probably NOT a standard fee, though expenses
for bringing the juror to the site are standard.

You can expect to pay from $300 to $1500 to the juror,
with about $1,000 being the average for well-known names.

In part it depends upon how much of the juror's time you
will be taking up. If they are just looking at slides at home,
that would likely be less than if you bring them in to see
the actual work once it has arrived. Often they want to do
that; slides can/do lie.

Doug Gray and I coordinate Ceramics USA; we always alot
money to bring the juror in to choose awards and look at the
work. When you have made a (short) list of possible jurors,
you can write them, ask about their availability and so on.
You're likely to have to plan a year in advance, to obtain the
juror, advertise the exhibit, call for entries, etc.

Hard work. But a good show is worth it.
