kiln wiring outcome

Dear Clayart folk,

Thanks for all the support, advice, and vicarious outrage about my
electrician experience. Here's how it turned out. After tossing and
turning and fuming and rehearsing angry speeches all Saturday night,
I looked at the wiring again on Sunday and noticed that, not only was
it aluminum, but it was #6 aluminum (not #4 as the electrician had
said)! While this might have made me even angrier, I actually
felt better, because I knew without doubt that I was justified in
having him redo the work. Anyway, I called him back and said we
definitely had to redo the wiring, and he immediately said, "yeah, I
know, I already went and bought the new wire, because I knew you
weren't happy when I left." So, he came back tonight and fixed
things (and even gave me #4 copper wire at no additional charge). He
also admitted that it was a stupid mistake on his part. Hopefully,
all's well that ends well. I don't know that I'd ever hire him again
as an electrician, but he was a nice person, so I'm glad I don't have
to be mad at him anymore.

Thanks again to all of you -- you really helped.

Chris,

Nice outcome! It made me remember that I had to fight with the
electrician who installed the 240 v amp, ran the wiring, then installed
a 110 v. outlet - and insisted that I had told him to! I finally had to
go buy the correct outlet and he replaced it.
