Back from Pot Luck end of year festivities at Skidmore where we have
time to look at everyone's recent work and discuss stuff... One of the
Rakuers brought out a super pot with Kuentzel(blue/black/purple) glaze
on it, and I would appreciate recipe for home studio and my own
experiments. It was newly made up and had not made its way to glaze
recipe book, and everyone had gone home for the semester... Does anyone
have this one? Thanks in advance...carolyn aka CNC

Hi Carolyn,

This recipe for Kuentzel Blue/Black/Purple Raku Glaze is in Robert
Piepenburg's book, "Raku Pottery". I haven't tried it, but probably will
now.

Kuentzel Blue/Black/Purple Raku

1 part Gerstley Borate
1 part Nepheline Syenite
1 part Copper Carbonate
1 part Rutile

Hope it's the one you're looking for.

A side note here: When I first got this recipe several years ago, I was
just learning how to mix glazes and I converted this recipe into
percentage - 25% by weight of each ingredient. I later learned that it
was "SUPPOSED" to be mixed by volume, so I remixed the glaze. Having
used this glaze mixed both ways, my opinion is that the 25% by weight
recipe looks better.
