majolica/searching for terra cotta

Dear Readers,

I now have gained some good background with clay making, glazing,
claybodies and many successful reduction firings in a down draught kiln to
cone 9 and 10 range. I have had a long time love for MAJOLICA and since I
have painting background really want to try my hand at the lower fire range
and have 'fun' with my brush once again!. In short I WANT to do majolica.

I read that one good step forward or one method would be to develope a good
terra cotta clay that fires to a nice red at cone 03 with good strength.
Once the terra cotta fires to cone 5 to verify that it is a 'true' terra
cotta, and it should be near melting by cone 5 and transitioning to dark
brown around cone 1. I would then proceed in working at some glaze
prosepects, colorants and stains.

Can someone share a tried and true terra cotta that I can begin to work on
a path towards realizing work in a 'favorite' ceramic of mine. Thanks in
advance.

On April 15,16 and 17th of this year Hermsen gave us a complete
clay, slips, and glaze recipes for Cone 04 Redart Clay body. Probably find it
easily in potters.org. Very detailed and very generous. I have not tried
any of this, possibly someone on the list has done. MB ....
