The key element on consignment is "Get a contract for the consignment!!!"
Study your state law on consignment and make sure your contract is in
compliiance with the law. That is you first, best defense against getteing
ripped off. If you are going to be in business be business-like in the
conduct of business. A contract defines how each party is going to perform
in the relationship.

In reading the Georgia law, it appears that consignned goods have greater
protection because the goods or the payment for the goods are held in trust
for the consignor. That trust may not be encumbered. Goods purchased by a
company on credit for which they will receive an invoice later can very well
become encumberd and you could lose them or at least receive less thean
their value.

Hi guys,

A word of caution ... contracts mean NOTHING when dealing with dishonest or
untrustworthy people. Check out who you are dealing with and BEWARE anyone
who has given anyone trouble in the past.

Just my 2 cents ...

Karen in Sonoma who hasn't had any trouble with consignment galleries ... yet!

I really don't think we should be led to a secure feeling just because a
contract states something . . .We have to research the places we leave our
work . . . talk to other artists, observe the gallery in its function, then we
should always listen to our gut! To often artists will give work to a gallery
just because they asked, or said yes to us, ya gotta do your homework guys!
