i would like to announce the construction of two wonderful `flat` top kilns.
had the honor of being with reg and mary behrens at the topping
of their new, nils lou design car kiln......full size.
it is a dandy.
reg and mary own bluemoon pottery, drummond, wisc. near lake superior.
what a glorious home, studio. and great people. a pleasure.
kurt wild, bob fritz, bob holman and me helped reg with the final
phase.........and then
put on the top.
he has build this kiln in about two weeks.
had a great welder that did a class a job.
bob fritz has just finished a small version of the flattop and will fire
that very
soon.
it is such a joy to watch the construction of two great kilns, with all new
materials....and done to perfection. and wonderful pots will emerge.
reg and mary have carved a great life for themselves and family in the far
north
woods. reg makes `bun warmers`, and plaques that hang on the wall, with
natural images pressed into the pieces. it is not great art, it is simple,
well done, natural items that he wholesales. he even has sent boxes of
these to japan. gift shops all over america sell his things.
he makes thousands of these clay pieces each year. does most of the work
himself. mary among many other things is the wholesaler
and manager. (finance)
reg is starting to throw again and is getting inspired to make quality pots.
this new kiln will kick start the operation.
so many ways to make a life work with clay. and make a very good
living.
reg has stuck with his own designs, own patterns, and they are lovely.
unique.
