Oaxacan pottery business for sale!!
After seven years in Oaxaca, Mexico we have decided to go and see what is
happening in America, practice our English and see the relatives. As a
result I will be selling the wholesale export/import business that I have
built up around the traditional pottery of Oaxaca. In a nut shell the
business purchases pottery from about a dozen S.Mexican villages and packs
and ships it to large customers in the U.S.
Potential buyers should have a love for pottery, working knowledge of
Spanish (Zapotec, Mixtec, Ayu'uk, Nahuatl, Tzeltal and Chatino are helpful
but optional), a spirit of adventure and a willingness too take on the
responsibility of becoming an integral element in the lives of hundreds of
traditional potters.
This business is very unique, fascinating and challenging. It is the flip
side of the coin from a nine-to-five-with-commute and is certainly not right
for everybody. Because of the strong ties I have created with the potters of
southern Mexico and the impact that this work has on their economy and
pottery, selecting the person who takes over this business will be much more
than saying yes to the first person to show up with cash in hand. Along
these lines I've decided to advertise through Clayart, at least guaranteeing
an audience of pottery lovers, as well as a group that in general is pretty
well grounded. That any of you speak Spanish, pues quien sabe?
If you are interested please e-mail me for more information.
Attentamente, Eric Mindling
p.s. workshop folks, I'll still be around this year, the next and the next
to lead adventurous potters into the Oaxacan hills.
