i use .06 or as i call it 6 on the oxyprobe for red.
it is a nice middle reduction.
i still agree with nils............it is the re/ignition of the
kiln at about 1700 to slow the cooling that gives the best
reds.
i use wood, small pieces for about 20 minutes.
just stops the cooling.
raw gas will also work. just light your burners for 10 minutes.
yet: we fire fast and cool fast at the farm in all of our
kilns...............kurt always, always gets bright red.
go figure.

ps...........i agree, howard axner is a gentleman.........and runs a good
business...............i don't buy from him, because i have continental
and minnesota right next door, but i know that we are lucky to be
in a medium that has the support of so many fine, honest vendors.
the list is very long. i have never been nicked by a clay vendor....
galleries? now that is a different story. (i have parts of my butt missing
from some of those.)
