In Rosette Gault's book there is mention of joining or inserting
bisqued ware with wet paper clay. When i tried to stick bisqued ware to
wet paper clay the bisque ware unstuck and fell off. Has anyone had
experience with this procedure.?? edgould@erols.com

She has an example on her web page. Wet both parts and use some paperclay
slip in between.

I just tried this on some bottles, one had a big horizontal crack the other
cracked right in half, horizontally. I just used a very thick paperclay
slip.

With the bottle with the crack, I pressed the slip through from the inside
until it oozed out. Looks really obvious but looks cool.

With the bottle that cracked in half I just made a good bead and stuck the
two pieces together. Again I wasn't interested in hiding the the fact that
they were joined so now there's bisqued ooze coming out of the crack.

I soaked both bottles first.

Lets see if they at least make it through the whole process

Russel

Brian,

Sorry to be so long, I miss read the message the first time. Apparently you
sent this message to the list and it bounced to me. Never seen that before.

You probably have already found this by now:

By the way, the bottle that had cracked in half eventually broke but I still
think it's possible. It might work better if you applied a very thin paper
clay slip to the break, then used a thicker one and stuck them together.

Good luck.
